Chief Spokesman for Hawthorne Industries
Assisting Victor Hawthorne in his endeavors is a group of trusted aides. These five men - lead by the eloquent and respected Nathaniel Pilchard - not only serve as spokesmen and representatives of Hawthorne and his company, but they also serve as financial advisors. In addition, it has been rumored that these five men serve as body guards, each apparently being trained in self-defense and the use of concealed weapons that they keep on their person. All five men, including Pilchard, are Yewkanians. While working diligently for his employer, some feel that the intelligent Mr. Pilchard may have plans of his own . . .
The human face of the villains . . .
Nathaniel Pilchard was created to be the human face of the villains. He's basically a good person with bad associates. He was inspired by Captain/Admiral Piett of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Similar to the character Douglas in the Shallowhorne Gang, in my original draft of West World, I assigned all lines spoken by Hawthorne's aides to Pilchard, and then split the dialogue later in the editing process. If West World were ever made into a movie, I would see actor Terrence Stamp playing this key part.
